San Diego Bargain Mamas Share Savings Tips

This blog entry is brought to you by Disney on Ice Princess Classics.

For a recent Disney on Ice giveaway for SDBM members I asked, "What is your favorite time or money-saving tip?" Congratulations Christina B and Heather S for each winning a set of four tickets to see Disney on Ice Princess Classics. Here are some of the responses:

Patty T - Use coupons, rent movies, turn off electronics not being used, and recycle.

Lisa S - I know it sounds simple, but coupons, coupons, coupons I used to clip and never had them when I needed them. I now keep them in a Ziplock in my backpack.

Carol Y - One of the best money savers that I like to do is to get certified organic Dr. Bronners castile soap & put it into a foaming soap dispenser. A large bottle of castile soap lasts forever & I feel better that Im giving my family something really safe to use without chemicals...all the while saving money

Dawn T - My time-saving tip is that I will cook ground beef or chicken and make 3 main dishes out of it, and make sure that I freeze some of the dishes for future use. Ex: I cube the chicken for chicken casserole, shred some for Chicken Mexican, and cut some in strips for fajitas. Some I marinade, and some not, but I cook it all at once and store it.

Christina B - My money-saving tip is to vist your local thrift store for kids clothes. After spending full price on uniform pants at Target, only to watch them fade less than two months later, I vowed never again I have gotten 4 uniform pants, one uniform shorts, 2 uniform shirts for a total of $8. The clothes are in excellent condition and I saved over $70 So it is definitely worthwhile to check it out. Just this morning I bought a Simply Vera, Vera Wang shirt for only 95cents and theres nothing wrong with it

Kathy L - When making my familys favorite dishes, I make a double recipe and freeze one to cook later. Comes in handy when I have a busy day.

Lisa D - Hi, one of my money saving tips is going to Ebay for discount coupons when I know were going to do something specific. For example, for my daughters birthday were going to RainForest Cafe and Build a Bear to celebrate with my son and daughter. I found 2 RFC kids eat free coupons on eBay for $5.50 total with free shipping and 2 BaB coupons $5 off each bear for $1.50 total with free shipping. Of course you have to make sure youre buying from a reputable seller and need enough time for shipping.

Jill - My Best Time Saver/Sanity Saver: Prep and lay out as much as possible for the next morning the night before. Lay out clothes, pack lunches, clean out that backpack, your purse and keys...and clear the table for breakfast, it makes getting my eldest up, dressed, and to Kindergarten so much easier We avoid the hunt for missing shoes, or missing school papers

Mai N - My favorite tip to save time: Lay out the kids clothes and make their lunches the night before, so no rushing around in the morning.

Heather S - Always search for coupons

Kendall B - I partner up with a good friend on what to buy at Costco and other large warehouse stores. If we go together on the big packs, we both save and none of it goes to waste Sometimes it is hard to buy and store so much of the large quantities, but the savings makes sense for both of us We split things up and share the savings

Sara M - My tip is using this this months "Back-to-School" advice on SDBM. I can use all the tips I can get. I have a college student and she would have me buy everything if she could.

Leah M - I have a grocery list Ive put onto a spreadsheet of all the staples I use every month. Ive categorized it according to store that the item is usually bought at. If I find a coupon for that item I usually try to remember to stick it in my purse with the list. Ive left extra room on the list for misc. items. For me, having a list is essential since my husband & I have memories just like fish, 2 seconds long. I just print up the list, we mark the items we need and on pay day, off we go. Costco is a payday tradition in our family, so it is first on the list. For parents who both work out of the home, a list is a must. I can modify my list at anytime since I have it saved on my computer.
