Tell us a little about yourself and your blog. My name is Deanna, I am a loving wife and mother to two beautiful children residing in sunny San Diego, California. I love day dreaming, dark chocolate, and traveling, but most of all I love my family! I am hoping to make it easier to find great product reviews, giveaways, recipes, craft ideas, parenting tips, shopping deals, family travel and DIY tips for busy mommies.
How you first got involved in with blogging? When my son was born in 2007, I was all into Myspace. I lived in Wisconsin for a short period of time, so it was my connection to my friends and family in San Diego. I thought it would be cool to start a social network similar to Myspace, but for moms. I opted for the name Mommygaga, sorta like moms going gaga over their kids and gabbing about it. At the same time, a larger, million dollar funded site compete with a team of staff writers, doctors and other experts came about and I was no match for it (CafeMom). I discovered blogging a year later and I never turned back!
What do you find most challenging about blogging and do you have any tips for others who might be interested in doing the same? The most challenging part of blogging is being able to do so with a full time job, 2 kids, a husband and a household that never seems to stay clean. I find myself up late at night to make deadlines and sometimes have trouble saying ‘no’, overwhelming myself with more than I can handle. Tips for new bloggers: find your niche, make friends and stay active in online and offline communities. Keep the good content coming and you’ll be on your way.
What contributions do want to be known for in the blogging community? Hmmm… contributions… nothing in particular. I just like to contribute to the online community by sharing family stories and other fun stuff that moms everywhere might be into and appreciate. We all love a laugh every once in a while! Have you noticed that you might talk to some of your online friends about stuff that you might never discuss with your real life friends?
Have you found anything interesting or unexpected about blogging? Everyone has the dream of being their own boss, but it’s a lot harder than one might think. Instead of having one job that you are told what to do, you pretty much have EVERY job that running a blog entails. All of the decisions, the writing, the back end work (HTML, which is not the simplest to learn), the marketing, the advertising, the scheduling… it’s all you.
What do you hope to achieve from blogging? Friendships, experiences, and a little cash on the side wouldn’t hurt
What is your favorite location in San Diego that you consider a real bargain? I love to head to the New Children’s Museum in Downtown San Diego on the second Sunday of each month. It is sponsored by Target, so admission is free and they always have wonderful activities for kids.
What is an interesting thing about you that people might not know? I have a twin sister!
What is your favorite time and/or money-saving tip? Time saving: Invest in a crock pot and fire that thing up in the morning. A tasty dinner awaits you in the evening!
Everyone has a favorite post. Name yours and why? My favorite post is probably an Instagram dump I did a few months back. I notice that I go back to it every so often and look at it. It’s a reflection of my life and everything I love in it.
