G and A Legal

Pollie Gautsch, attorney and owner of G&A Legal in Solana Beach, is proud to be a source in San Diego for the "mompreneurs", giving them tools, tips and advice for starting and maintaining their new businesses.  Her boutique law firm specializes in trademarks and licensing.  Below is Pollie's Top 10 Suggestions for the Mompreneur to find great tips that help mompreneurs take their business from infancy to adulthood:

  • Conception - Assess and research the feasibility of your idea or concept (ie: is there another product or services similar to yours?  Do you have a different twist on a product or service?)
  • Birth - Establish a framework including making a business plan and budget and discussing with your tax professional the type of business entity to start (sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, etc).
  • Nurturing - Grow and market the business with websites, advertisements and PR.
  • Be sure to maintain “family values” - Work it out with your spouse, significant other or caregivers how much time you can or expect to be devoting to your new business venture.
  • Baby Steps - Be realistic as to the goals you set for yourself.
  • Establish Good Habits - Start with good organization habits.
  • Protect your “baby” - File for protection of your intellectual property interests (invention, name, logo, art pieces etc) whether it is a patent, trademark or copyright.  Check with a lawyer or self-help book for assistance.
  • Make “playdates” with other woman business owners to get suggestions and support for your new ideas or business venture.  Join a networking group in your area or online.
  • Give Yourself a Time Out - Once in awhile you need to step back and relax.
  • Balancing motherhood, self and business - Try to keep a balance in your life!
