StokeBox Helps Families Save Money and Time
A few weeks back I was invited by some local blogger friends here in San Diego to learn more about something right up my Bargain Mama alley, but I was unable to make it. I had heard about StokeBox before, and thought that the concept was perfect for families, expecially in the economy we are living in today.
Well, I am super “stoked” to share this start-up story: The mastermind behind StokeBox is local mom, Brina. When was pregnant with her second, a girl, she only had her boy’s clothes. She wanted a systematic way to exchange her boy’s gently-used clothing in exchange for girls’ clothes! How ideal would that be? When she couldn’t find an easy way to trade her favorite, no-longer-needed baby clothes for what she could use in return, she created StokeBox.
StokeBox is a new website that encourages its members to trade their best, gently-used and outgrown stuff in exchange for things they need from other members. Members search tags and view descriptive photos to find and valuable stuff they need – from children’s clothes and toys, to shoes and art supplies, to name a few – at a fraction of the retail cost. Choose from 3 USPS flat-rate box sizes: small ($10), medium $15, large ($20) [shipping is included in the flat rate!]
Each box listed earns one token, and each box shipped (once chosen by another member) earns another token. You must redeem one token to pick and purchase a box. To make sure you and the other members are stoked, they ask everyone to follow these guidelines:stokebox.com/guidelines.
I always swapped clothing and toys with friends and neighbors for the first 7 years of my kids’ lives. Not everyone happens to know others nearby to establish such ideal swaps with. Swapping good stuff is totally worth the effort and a fun treat for the kids, without doubt! I highly recommend swapping clothes, toys, books, etc. when kids are little, as it saves time, money, gas and is loads of fun to get packages at your doorstep. This business just makes good sense (and cents)!
