We are all aware of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores respectively, but Small Business Saturday (this Nov. 24) encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local.
Small Business Saturday is dedicated to supporting small businesses nationwide. An American shopping holiday created by American Express on November 27, 2010, it is held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year. By supporting small businesses, you are not only helping your local economy, but also your fellow neighbors, friends and family.
For the next few weeks SDBM is going to support the efforts of Shop Small in support of small businesses everywhere – local and online. Please help support this great cause by sharing this with your friends and family through re-tweeting the message. The Twitter hashtag #SmallBusinessSaturday has existed since early 2010 and was used to promote small businesses on any Saturday (not solely that Saturday between Black Friday and Cyber Monday). The hashtag is used in a manner similar to #FollowFriday to highlight favorite local businesses.
I consider this day a perfect day to encourage local business owners, crafters, and social media enthusiasts to celebrate local value by supporting each other and shouting out the deals and local gems that we find noteworthy! If you are a San Diego or online business and have a special deal to share that will be honored on or before Small Business Saturday, please share it in the comments below! Also, please feel free during the month of November to post your local and online specials on San Diego Bargain Mama’s Facebook page.
