SoCal Kids San Diego Shares Weekend Festivals, Fun, Tours and More for 9/28-9/30

Check out these family-friendly events and activities happening this weekend in San Diego! Get up close with snakes, lizards, tortoises, and more during Discovery Days: Reptilemania at the San Diego Zoo. The four-day celebration takes place Thursday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 30, and is free with Zoo membership or admission. Reptilemania celebrates all things reptile and amphibian with special shows and interactive opportunities for guests including an opportunity to explore the recently opened Reptile Walk, home to more than 50 species of turtles, tortoises, crocodilians, amphibians, and a surprising collection of creatures native to California.

SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular starts this weekend, September 29 – 30 and runs every weekend in October from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Festivities are geared for kids 12 years and under, who are invited to come in costume and enjoy animal meet and greets, special Halloween shows and colorful costumed characters. Highlights include “The Search for Captain Lucky’s Treasure,” “Clyde & Seamore’s Spooky Adventure,” “Penelope’s Pumpkinfish Patch,” and “Pirates 4-D.” Remember, in October during “Kids Free Month,” SeaWorld is offering one child, ages 3 to 9, free admission with one full-paid adult admission.

San Diego Zoo Discovery Days: Reptilemania: Kids’ crafts, tours, animal presentations, special shows, a scavenger hunt, and more. San Diego Zoo. 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Price: Included with admission or membership.Snow White: The seven dwarfs help Snow White, but can the Prince save her from the Queen’s evil plan? Finger Painting Friday: Designed to foster color recognition, application techniques, and creative self-expression. Recommended for ages 4 and under. The New Children’s Museum. 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Price: Included with membership or admission ($10).

St. John of the Cross Fall Festival: Enjoy live entertainment, rides, games, and more. St. John of the Cross. 12-10 p.m. (also Sept. 29, 30). Price: Free admission.

Adams Avenue Street Fair: Featuring live music, carnival rides, kids’ activities, vendors, and more. Adams Avenue. 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. (also Sept. 30). Price: Free admission.

Oceanside Harbor Days: Featuring arts and craft exhibits, food and fun activities for the entire family. Oceanside Harbor. 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. (also Sept. 30). Price: Free admission.

4th annual Touch A Truck fundraiser

Wild West Bonita Fest: Celebrate the heritage of Bonita with a community parade, entertainment, a kid’s zone, vendors, food, and more. Bonnie Brae Shopping Center. 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Price: Free admission.

Touch A Truck: California’s largest kid-friendly car show where you get to climb-in, climb-on, and honk the horn of your favorite vehicles. All for a great cause – childhood cancer research. Qualcomm Stadium. 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Price: $5 per person; parking is free. READ MORE…

Woofstock: Pet festival featuring food, live music, dog groomers, K9 demo, vendors, pet parade, and more. Grand Ave., Downtown Escondido. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Price: Free admission.

Vista Viking Festival: In addition to musical performers and acts, you can also enjoy arts and crafts for children, a kids zone, competitions, food, archery, Viking villages and more. Norway Hall. 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. (also Sept. 30). Price: $7; Children 12 and under are free; Parking $3.

SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular: Catch silly and spooky shows, trick-or-treat alongside SeaWorld characters, join in a walk-through adventure. SeaWorld San Diego. 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. (also Sept. 30 and weekends in October). Price: Included with admission.

Oktoberfest in El Cajon: Enjoy authentic German food and drink, folk dance performances, games, vendors, and a Kids’ Zone. German American Societies. 12-10 p.m. (also Sept. 30 & Oct. 5, 6, 7).

Full Moon Pier Walk: A tour of the Scripps Oceanography campus is included in this jam-packed night of fun and exploration. For ages 9 and over. Scripps Pier. 6-8:30 p.m. (also Sept. 30). Price: $22/Birch Aquarium members; $25/non-members.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 30

Parent Connection Swap Meet: This last Family Swap Meet of the year is a great opportunity to find Halloween costumes and stock up on winter clothes. Canyon Crest Academy. 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Price: $2/person; Children under 12 are free.

Guided Nature Walks: A guided nature walk from the Visitor Center and learn about the history, geology, plants, animals and ecology of the park. Mission Trails Regional Park. 9:30-11 a.m. Price: Free.

Sunday Lawn Programs: Enjoy the sights and sounds of China featuring traditional, colorful and acrobatic lion dances and dance, song, music and displays of martial arts. International Cottages in Balboa Park. 2-3 p.m. Price: Free.

Nature Discovery Tours: Get in touch with nature during guided tours of the Discovery Center and surrounding area. Living Coast Discovery Center. 2-3 p.m. Price: Included with membership or admission ($9/$14).
