The only special day that kids look forward to collecting treats and the parents count the minutes before getting rid of them! Seems counterproductive, but I am no Scrudge, and am not about to break tradition. Well, actually I am, because not the candy goes almost immediately. We do not need it in the house (and this mama does not need to be tempted)!
Under “The Candy Buy Back Program”, local health agencies and other community members collaborate to address the issue of childhood obesity and dental health among our local children. After Halloween, participating dentists and physicians purchase unopened candy from young trick-or-treaters for $1 per pound. They arrange with local shippers to send the candy to Operation Gratitude, which fills thousands of care packages for troops overseas.
