Great Ideas for a Fun Father’s Day Weekend in San Diego

In celebration of Father’s Day, there are many especially-for-Dad events happening throughout San Diego that the whole family can enjoy. On June 16, San Marcos Babies is hosting a Daddy & Me Morning Out that includes music, songs, games, BBQ, and more. Oh, and moms are welcome too! On June 16 and 17, bring the family to Qualcomm Park for the San Diego Father’s Day Festival and Walk. The festival features live music, games, BBQ demos, Speed Stack Competition, the “Man Cave”, Face Painting, and much more! On June 17, there are ten more events to choose from including the Big Bay Father’s Day Fishing Tournament, Florida Canyon Father’s Day Walk, Father’s Day Brunch Cruise (three options throughout the day with Hornblower Cruises), Father’s Day at the Wave Waterpark, Family Festival Day at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, Father’s Day Train Ride, and Father’s Day with the San Diego SeaLions Soccer Team. FRIDAY, JUNE 15
Hullabaloo Sing-Along Concert: Enjoy singing, dancing and foot-stomping. Scripps Mende Well Being Center. 10:30-11:30 a.m. Price: $5/family, $3/family Parent Connection.
Mac’s Kids Corner: For children interested in listening to train stories, playing games, and creating various railroad crafts. San Diego Model Railroad Museum. 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Price: $4-$8, Children 14 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.
Monster Under the Bed: Tommy says there really are monsters under his bed and they are playing Rock and Roll. Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theatre. Three Shows: 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. Price: $4/$5.
Cruisin’ Grand: Check out the 500+ cars lining the streets of historic downtown Escondido. East Grand Avenue. 5-9 p.m. Free.
SATURDAY, JUNE 16
Philip Rivers 5K Walk & Fun Run: This fun walk and run will take place along the water in NTC Park at Liberty Station in Point Loma. The family friendly post-race party includes live music, complimentary food samples, a Kids Fun Zone and an Autograph booth. Liberty Station. 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. Price: $45/adult, $25/child (benefits Rivers of Hope Foundation).
San Diego County Fair: Featuring food, rides, exhibits, kids’ area, animals, games, and more. Del Mar Fairgrounds. 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. Price: $7-$13, Ages 5 and younger are free. Ways to Save!
Pet Fest & Doggie Dash: A 1 mile doggie dash and various pet-related vendors plus special demonstrations from the Chula Vista K-9 Unit and more. Memorial Park Bowl in Chula Vista. 8 a.m. Free admission.
Tractor Show: 50 acres of all-day fun including working antique farm and construction equipment demonstrations, a scale-model railroad exhibit, a weaving exhibit, and a blacksmith demonstration. Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum. 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Price: $7-$10 (June 16, 17, 23, 24).
Loews Coronado Bay Resort Surf Dog Competition: In addition to the competition, enjoy onsite family activities, lunch by the Devilicious Food Truck, sponsor giveaways and more. Dunes Park. 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Price: Free to watch; Competition $50/$55. Hounds Hang 10!
The Old House Fair: A free day-long festival that includes live music, food vendors, kids’ activities, local artists, free design consultations, exhibitors, demos, a foodie expo, and free walking tours. 30th & Beech St. in South Park. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Price: Free; Historic Home Tour $20; Trolley Tour $5. SEA Days: With the theme of renewable energy, young adventurers can explore hands-on exhibits, make a craft, and listen to story time. Birch Aquarium. 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Price: Included with admission ($9.50-$14).
Wildlife in the Park: Join Project Wildlife as they present a live native raptor up close. Felicita Park. 12-1 p.m. Price: $3/parking.
Sky Hunters: Join a representative of the Sky Hunters Organization and learn about the behaviors of hawks, owls, falcons, and eagles. William Heise Park in Julian. 2-3 p.m. Price: $3/ day use fee.
Bird Park Summer Concert Series: Enjoy a family friendly evening at Bird Park listening to Nathan James. Bird Park. 5:30-7:30 p.m. Free.
Nature Club: Designed to provide children ages 8 to 12 with the opportunity to spend time outdoors, connecting with nature. Mission Trails Regional Park. 6-9 p.m. Free.
SUNDAY, JUNE 17
Ranger Led Hike: Learn about the local flora, fauna, and maybe even a little Julian history with this easy to moderate hike through the trails of Heise Park. William Heise Park. 10:30-11:30 a.m. Price: $3/day use fee.
Family Sunday: Children and families can explore their colorful exhibitions of folk art, craft and design, and win a prize for completing the Treasure Hunt! Mingei International Museum. 12-4 p.m. Price: $5/family, $3/individual.
Interpretive Center Tours & Nature Hike: Join the Ranger for a 1-mile interpretive hike around the park learning the history of the Kumeyaay Indians that once inhabited the area. Felicita Park. 12 p.m. Price: $3/parking fee.
Family Drop-In Days: Explore and learn about the art on view through interactive games, child-friendly tours and art making. Recommended for children 6-12 years. San Diego Museum of Art. 1-3 p.m. Price: Included with admission ($4.50 – $12).
Nature Discovery Tours: Get in touch with nature during guided tours of the Center and surrounding area. Living Coast Discovery Center (formerly Chula Vista Nature Center). 2-3 p.m. Price: Included with admission ($9/$14).
