Halloween Family Fun for 10/26 – 10/28

Check out these family-friendly events and activities happening this weekend in San Diego! While this weekend is all about Halloween, and it doesn’t stop there. October 31st is chock full of fun too! Check out these events: Westfield Family Spooktacular, Scientist Meet and Greet, Monsters Under the Bed, Halloween Spooktacular, Halloween Face Painting for Kids, Trick or Treat Off the Street, Safe Trick or Treat, Annual Safe Halloween, Halloween Festival, Halloween Carnival, and Trick-or-Treat on India Street. Whew!

The San Diego Zoo is getting a bit cheesy on us. Yep, Tillamook® Cheese, that is! Winding down their Loaf Love Tour in San Diego, Tillamook Cheese is offering free admission to the San Diego Zoo on Saturday, October 27 to the first 100 people sporting Tillamook orange. The frenzy starts at 9 a.m.

Don’t own a single stitch of Tillamook orange? Then head on over to Fashion Valley Mall for the opening of the new Geppetto’s Play Area. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony will kick off the festivities from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The celebration will offer activities for children of all ages, including drawings for toy prizes, craft activities and treats. Designed to depict a marine life concept, the new play area is located on the lower level across from Crate & Barrel.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26

Polka Dot Ghost: Tommy the ghost has a BIG problem. He is not scary! He needs your help getting ready for the big night. Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theatre. 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Price: $4/$5.

Halloween Bash: Featuring a performance by “Rockin’ Railroad,” trick-or-treating, goodie bags, arts & crafts, snacks, and play time. Come in costume! Kidville Chula Vista. 5-7 p.m. Price: $17/child; 10% off 2nd child.

Ms. Smarty-Plants Goes Batty: Meet live bats, watch a short film about bats, make a batty craft, and take a flashlight tour of the Garden to search for wild bats. The Water Conservation Garden. 6-8 p.m. Price: Free Admission.

Halloween Family Day: Over a dozen museums will offer FREE admission to children 12 and under all day. Participating museums and cultural attractions will bestow hallowed guests with a ghoulish array of spooky activities, creepy crafts, spine-tingling tours, scary storytelling, and loads of free treats from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Balboa Park. 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Price: Free for kids 12 and under.

Cardiff Surf Classic & Green Beach Fair: Featuring surf contests, vendors, tarp surfing, Dr. Zoolittle and Avian Eyes activities and performances, live music, obstacle course, cooking lessons, art, and more. Seaside Reef. 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Price: Free admission. READ MORE…

iSweat4Pets Nature Dog Walk: This unique, dog-friendly walk will feature multiple trails for every fitness level and an exciting pet-friendly vendor village! San Dieguito County Park. 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Price: $35 registration fee.

Boulevard BOO! Parade & Carnival: Parade kicks off at 10 a.m. at 59th Street followed by a carnival featuring rides, food, vendors, costume contests, and live music. Clay Park. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Price: Free admission. READ MORE…

Renaissance Faire: Step back in time to 1572 where more than 500 re-enactors will stage a renaissance era village complete with knights, gypsies, barbarians, and pixies. Felicita Park. 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. (Also Oct. 28). Price: $8-$17 plus $5 parking fee.

Halloween on Elm: Featuring carnival games, costume contests, an interactive pirate show, Halloween story telling, face painting, and live music. Village of Carlsbad. 1-6 p.m. Price: Free.

Hoot, Howl & Prowl: Meet the canyon’s “wildlife” up close! Children are encouraged to wear animal costumes and each will be given a glow necklace as they embark on their adventure. Blue Sky Ecological Reserve. 5:30-8 p.m. Price: $5/person.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28

7th Annual Ocean Beach Canine Carnival: It’s a free party for the dog-loving community featuring games, costume prizes, and a doggie costume parade plus food and a street fair with goodies for pets and people. Fall Pumpkin Festival: Join park staff to carve your pumpkins (pumpkins provided to first 30 families to arrive). Other activities include: arts and crafts, games, and children’s relays. San Dieguito County Park. 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Price: Free; $3/parking per vehicle.

The Jungle Book: Specially adapted from the beloved film, this musical includes all your favorite Disney tunes, like “The Bare Necessities,” and “I Wan’na Be Like You.” ENCORE! Theater. 2-4 p.m. Price: $10-$15.

The Sound of Music: Based on the true story of the Trapp Family Singers, the musical is set in 1940s Austria. Presented by San Diego Junior Theatre. Casa del Prado Theatre. 2-4 p.m. Price: $10-$15.

Once Upon a Hallowe’en: Featuring storytelling, carnival games, a live statue garden, a haunted house, and ride aboard the Halloween Express for a nominal fee. Old Poway Park. 5:30-8:30 p.m. Price: Free admission.
