KidsWalk Brings Free Family Fun to the 28th Annual Mission Federal ArtWalk

Local arts organizations are teaming up with Mission Federal ArtWalk to provide fun and interactive workshops for kids – for FREE!  Mission Federal ArtWalk is excited to announce the return of KidsWalk, a family-friendly event within the larger outdoor fine arts festival. From designing ocean-themed craft using recycled materials, to creating their own musical instrument to take home with them, kids of all ages are given a hands-on opportunity to immerse themselves in the arts and explore their creative potential with KidsWalk.

The two-day event, held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29, is located at Amici Park on Date and Union Streets in Little Italy.  KidsWalk features a variety of arts organizations, creating a lively and entertaining environment for the whole family.

This year’s official line-up includes:

Art FORM offers kids the chance to discover how creative re-use takes shape with arts education workshops and access to low cost/no cost materials for schools and the community. On-site, they are offering kids the experience to see for themselves how creative re-use takes shape! 

ArtReach is a non-profit visual art organization that takes professional artists into elementary schools to work with and inspire children. Kids can cut and design a 3-D head or decorate a “hand portrait” to hang.

Art with Larissewill be on site providing fine art instruction and teaching. Children are shown the basic techniques such as drawing using basic shapes, lights and darks, texture and drawing details using pattern.

Birch Aquarium at Scripps will be at KidsWalk inspiring children to explore the wonders of the ocean and to go green using recycled materials to make an ocean-themed craft.

Coronado School of the Arts is an art school within a public high school. KidsWalk attendees will enjoy the fun of unique face-painting designs.

Mission Federal Credit Union offers kids the opportunity to decorate their own savings bank to take home and start saving for the future.

Monart School of Arts drawing method helps build a child’s self-esteem by drawing and coloring different fun and unique handouts. 

Rare Hare Studio encourages the use of recycled and reclaimed items, promoting creativity and environmental awareness with children. On–site, they are showing children how to transform normally discarded items into art.

RhythmWorx enables children to experience their inner percussionist! Recreational music experiences and drum circles take place throughout the day, and kids are able to explore and play a wide variety of drums and percussion instruments. They are even offering the opportunity for youngsters to make their own instrument to take home too! 

Rivers of Hope/Heart Gallery San Diego is a photographic display of children waiting to join a lifelong family through adoption. Kids can cut out and decorate a paper heart to wear as a necklace. 

San Diego Creative Weavers Guild teaches and inspires the art of weaving and spinning fibers of all types. Children can learn the ancient art of weaving and experiment using various types of looms. 

San Diego Seaside Scrollers is a non-profit organization promoting scroll saw woodworking through education, workshops and community events for children. Children can create their own projects by tracing patterns onto wood, which will then be cut into the shapes for them by members using scroll saws. Children can then paint their project to take it home with them. 

Sophia Isadora Academy of Circus Arts trains children and adults in all things “circus” including trapeze, acrobatics, tumbling and juggling. On-site they are providing entertainment with a charming one-ring circus complete with acrobats, clowns, aerialist and singers to amaze all ages.

The New Children’s Museum
is bringing along “plarn” (plastic yarn)! Kids can make their own squishy sea urchin family.
