New Year’s Eve Kid-Friendly Celebrations in San Diego 2012

Snow at Sea World

Fun in the snow awaits at Sea World!

The holidays are not over until the new year has rung in!  Many families get creative and celebrate the new year with the kids the day before, or cut the evening short by ringing it in early, then hop on out for some adult-only fun!  Whatever is your tradition or fancy, Happy New Year!! The following are some great family-friendly activities to consider, whether you are a visitor or resident:

John’s New Years Eve Party and Horn Parade

I love what I have heard about John’s Incredible Pizza Co. in San Diego’s South Bay, which offers kids an all-you-can-eat buffet all night long, along with drinks, rides and prizes. At midnight, the excitement continues with the IncrediBear Horn Parade and the ball drop on the big screen.

New Year’s Bash at The New Children’s Museum– Beats, Patterns and Rhythms!

A prefect opportunity fot the kids before you celebrate on the real New Year’s Eve: Friday, December 28th, The New Children’s Museum will have music and dance performances, hands-on art workshops, live graffiti art and a member’s only celebration.

Jungle Bells at the San Diego Zoo

The San Diego Zoo is also  transformed into a magical winter wonderland. There are lighted animal displays throughout the park, live animal shows, storytelling, and bell ringers. It is open until 8:00 PM on New Year’s Eve.

Library Fun!

Coronado Public Library has a family-friendly new year’s eve celebration. The event will begin at 1 p.m. and will include plenty of games for the kids.  Also, be sure to check out www.sandiegolibrary.org for other January activities, including Chinese New Year events and crafts!

SeaWorld San Diego

SeaWorld’s Christmas Celebration runs through January 5th. We went and it was a real blast! The Park stays open until 9:00 PM and features SnowWorld, “Shamu’s Christmas” show, The Polar Express 4-D Experience and nightly fireworks. Take your snow gear for the winter wonderland at SeaWorld’s Arctic Plaza! This area features more than 6,500 square feet of fresh snow each day and impromptu visits with SeaWorld’s arctic foxes, adding to the wintery atmosphere. Photo opps await, too!

The Sheraton Carlsbad Resort

The Sheraton Carlsbad Resort is hosting a Roaring 20s theme. Guests are encouraged to dress along the lines of Al Capone and Greta Garbo. The family-friendly event will feature buffets for adults and kids, a dessert bar, drinks, a DJ and dance floor—and a Kids Party Zone, complete with a gamer room, face painting, and plenty of games and goodies. For ticket prices and overnight promotions, visit Sheraton’s event page.

Kids’ New Year’s Eve at LEGOLAND

As a little tribute to the famous Times Square party, Kids’ New Years Eve features a kid’s concert and countdown to the new year followed by a huge LEGO brick dropping 22 feet into 2013 and a spectacular fireworks display. Brick and fireworks start at 6:00 PM.

Her are some other top things to do in San Diego before we are officially in 2013!

What family fun or traditions do you have?  We would love to hear!
