WHAT: Coming off a successful first year in 2011, the San Diego Museum Council will once again offer free admission this October at 36 museums for children ages 12 and under who attend with a paid adult.
To participate, families can download a coupon available on the SDMC website – www.sandiegomuseumcouncil.org – and present it at participating museums to receive the offer. (The offer is limited to two children per paid adult admission ticket and does not include special events/exhibits or field trips.)
“We were thrilled at the success of our inaugural Kids Free in October campaign in 2011,” said Jessica Crawford, marketing manager of Birch Aquarium at Scripps and board president of the San Diego Museum Council. “More than 4,500 Kids Free coupons were redeemed. We’re expecting to see even more families enjoying museums this year.”
Research from the American Association of Museums points to the important role museums play in a child’s education, making back-to-school season an ideal time for the Kids Free in October campaign. The event also helps families bridge the education gap left by recent budget cutbacks to school field trips.
