Join a celebration of royal proportions when Rapunzel, Tiana and Cinderella star in the all-new ice skating production of Disney On Ice presents Dare to Dream!In San Diego at the Valley View Casino Center, January 23-27, 2013. Relive memorable moments from Tangled, The Princess and the Frog and Cinderella as a cast of world-class skaters brings the romance, humor and adventure of the films to life in this contemporary skating spectacular.
San Elijo Lagoon offers more than fanciful butterflies and long, winding trails. One of San Diego’s largest coastal wetlands, this county and state regional park protects nearly 1,000 acres of habitat that hosts more than 700 species of plants and animals. Family Discovery Days: Wings Over Wetlands will take place Saturday and Sunday, January 26 and 27 from 1-4 p.m. both days. This free event will feature arts and crafts, nature hikes, live music by Hullabaloo, scopes for spotting birds, and more.
If you have an interest in hawks, falcons, and other raptors, check out HawkWatch 2013 every Saturday in January and February from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Biologists from the Wildlife Research Institute, Inc., will be on hand demonstrating hawk banding and tracking eagles with transmitters, as well as talking about the significance of the Ramona Grassland ecosystem to the raptors’ survival. Nineteen species of raptors have been recorded at this raptor hotspot, so bring your binoculars if you have them. The biologists will also have scopes you can use. This is a free event and open to all ages.
Sunday, January 27 is Family Day at the Maritime Museum of San Diego. Children 12 years and under are admitted free! From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., kids can enjoy craft activities aboard the museum’s ships. For an additional $5.00 per person, families can sign up for a Historic Bay Cruise on San Diego Bay aboard the museum’s historic 1914 harbor pilot boat Pilot. Please keep in mind that children must be accompanied by an adult in order to receive free Maritime Museum admission. Only two children 12 or under per adult will be admitted free.

Finger Painting Friday: Offers a unique environment designed to foster color recognition, application techniques, and creative self-expression. Recommended for ages 4 and under. KinderNights: Each month you’ll go on a different animal adventure to learn wonderful things about the creatures you share the Earth with. Recommended for ages 3 to 6. San Diego Zoo. 6-7:30 p.m. Price: $12 per person for members; $15 for nonmembers.

Leave No Trace Ranger Program: Learn how nature reacts to you, and how you interact with nature. The family friendly program is open to all ages and ability levels. Otay Lakes Park. 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Price: Free.
An International Drum Festival: Experience the sounds of Middle Eastern and African music with an afternoon of drum, dance and vocal performances and workshops. Mingei International Museum. 1-3 p.m. Price: Included with admission ($5/$8).
Family Science Saturdays: Tinker with electricity using everyday objects such as batteries, lights, motors and switches. Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. 1-3 p.m. Price: $9.75/$11.75 Gallery Admission.

The Little Engine That Could: Eddie the Engine wants to help deliver a birthday present to Bunny Rabbit, but he is just too young! Come and help Eddie Engine climb the hill. Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theatre. Three shows: 11 a.m., 1 p.m., & 2:30 p.m. Price: $4/$5.
Families Make History: Each weekend there will be free hands-on experiences that highlight a certain era of San Dieguito history. San Dieguito Heritage Museum. 12-4 p.m. Price: Free.
Wacky Science Sundays: Get ready to explore the wild and wacky worlds of mysterious creatures, fascinating habitats, and phenomenal hands-on science! San Diego Natural History Museum. Two shows: 12:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. Price: Included with admission ($9-$15).
Explore Local Tide Pools: Birch Aquarium naturalists will show participants how to tread lightly through these fragile ecosystems and will help them discover the wonderful world of tide pools. False Point. 2:30-4:30 p.m. Price: $15.
