Happy 4th of July! There are many celebrations taking place all over San Diego including San Diego Bay, Mira Mesa, Del Mar, National City, Scripps Ranch, El Cajon, Rancho Bernardo, Poway, Old Town, San Marcos, and Santee, just to name a few.
The 12th annual Port of San Diego Big Bay Boom Fireworks Show starts at 9 p.m. Four fireworks barges placed strategically around Shelter Island, Harbor Island and the North and South Embarcadero Marina Parks, will launch the pyrotechnics into the air. Fireworks also will be discharged at the Imperial Beach Pier. Premium viewing will be available from all of the following Port of San Diego parks:
Shelter Island, Harbor Island, Spanish Landing, Embarcadero Marina Park North, Embarcadero Marina Park South, Cesar Chavez, Portwood Pier Plaza, and Coronado Tidelands Park. To accomodate the large crowds, the Port of San Diego has set up free parking lots with shuttle service to Harbor and Shelter Islands, provided by Old Town Trolley and Five Star Tours. San Diego Zoo’s Nighttime Zoo: Celebrate the Year of the Dragon during the Zoo’s “China Celebration.” Extended summer hours through Sept. 3. San Diego Zoo. 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Puppet Circo: This is the zaniest, funniest circus you will ever see. Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theatre. Three shows: 11 a.m., 1 p.m. & 2:30 p.m. Price: $4/$5.
Hullabaloo: Fusing country, rock, blues, and folk with kid-friendly lyrics to deliver a foot-stomping, hand-clapping good time! Vine Theater. 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Price: $5/family.
Concerts on the Promenade: Tonight is the Caribbean sounds of Upstream. Prescott Promenade. 5-8 p.m. Free.
SATURDAY, JUNE 30
Tierrasanta Fun Run: A family fun run through the tree-lined boulevards of Tierrasanta. Followed by entertainment, food & more. Tierrasanta Recreation Center. 6:30 – 11 a.m. Price: $20-$40.

Soccer Shots Free Days: Free Soccer for children ages 3-8 years old to introduce basic soccer skills, teamwork, agility and sportsmanship. Woodglen Vista Park. 9 a.m. – 10 p.m. Free.
4th of July Festival: Enjoy inflatable slides, obstacle courses, bounce domes, train rides, face painting, arts & crafts, balloon artist & toys, food vendors, music, and the World’s Largest Inflatable Water Slide at 175 ft long. B Street Pier. 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. (Thru July 8) Price: $20 per person; parents not participating are free.
Oceanside Independence Day Parade: Start the celebration early. Featuring 100 entries in the parade. Coast Blvd. 10 a.m. Free.
San Diego Latino Music Festival: Free family-friendly event celebrates Latino music in the heart of the Historic Barrio District. Featuring live music, kids activities, vendors, and more. Sherman Heights Joint-Use Sports Field. 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Free.
4th of July Celebration: Celebrate the 4th of July with crafts, games, music from Trails & Rails, and more. Rancho San Diego Library. 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Free.
Imperial Beach Kids Fest: Featuring interactive workshops such as painting, playing musical instruments, making puppets, learning martial arts, and live music. Portwood Pier. 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free.
5th Annual Family Day: Learn about renewable energy and water conservation. Design, build and take home your very own solar-powered car. Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Price: Included with admission ($9.75-11.75).

Family Discovery Days: Learn how local plants and animals were used for food, tools, clothing, and medicine. Armed with goggles and digging tools, your little archaeologist can experience “working” at a mock dig site.
