A popular family destination, Seaport Village is once again commencing the holiday season with Surfin’ Santa. Sporting board shorts and sandals, Surfin’ Santa makes his way into Seaport Village on Saturday, November 24 at 1 p.m. by boat.
After a lively parade down the boardwalk, the festivities that follow include live holiday music, face painting, stilt walkers, a sidewalk magician, an eco ornament craft project with the Birch Aquarium, and a photo opportunity with Surfin’ Santa on his six foot wave. Surfin’ Santa visitors will receive a free parking ticket that can be used for additional holiday fun through Dec. 25 (except Dec. 9 and 16).
Holiday of Lights at the Del Mar Fairgrounds opened Thursday night. Take a tour in your own vehicle around the 1.5-mile track or ride in the Holiday Hayride. The Holiday Hayride has select dates (Nov. 23 & 30, Dec. 7 & 14) and reservations are recommended. Cost is $10 per person. With over 400 sparkling lights, the Holiday of Lights runs through Tuesday, January 1, 2013. It’s also open on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, but closed on Mondays, Nov. 26, Dec. 3 and 10. Cost is $15.00 per car, up to 5 people and $20.00 per vehicle, 6 or more people. $13 tickets are available at Albertsons|Sav-on stores in San Diego County.

Camp Black Friday: Kids (ages 2-9 years) will have arts & crafts, gym play, pizza & juice. Children must be potty trained. Kidville Chula Vista. 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Price: $35/child.

Finger Painting Friday: Explore organic shapes and textures by making a one-of-a-kind autumn leaf! Recommended for ages 4 and under. The New Children’s Museum. 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Price: $10.

Rancho Christmas: A variety on hands-on crafts for kids as well as blacksmith and wool spinning demonstrations, as well as Native American story-telling, live music, and Ballet Folklorico performances. Surfin’ Santa Arrives at Seaport Village: Posing on his six-foot wave and surfboard, Santa will be available for photos from 1 – 5 p.m. Families can stroll down the boardwalk and enjoy kids’ craft tables, entertainers and dining into the evening. Country Christmas Tree Lighting: Julian kicks off the holiday season with the annual lighting of the town’s huge living Christmas tree. Pioneer Park. 2 p.m. (Tree lighting at 5 p.m.) Price: Free.
Santa Train North Pole Limited: All aboard the Limited as it rockets toward the North Pole. Families will enjoy cookies and hot cocoa, sing-along of traditional Christmas carols, and Santa himself. Campo Depot. 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Price: $20-$50.

Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas: A wonderful, whimsical musical based upon the classic Dr. Seuss book. Old Globe Theatre. 11 a.m., 2 p.m., & 5 p.m. Price: $24-$87.
Families Make History: Each weekend there will be free hands-on experiences that highlight a certain era of San Dieguito history. 12-4 p.m. San Dieguito Heritage Museum. Price: Free.
Family Drop-In Days: Explore and learn about the art on view through interactive games, child-friendly tours and art making. Recommended for families with children 6-12 years. San Diego Museum of Art. 1-3 p.m. Price: Included with admission ($4.50-$12).
