Check out these family friendly-events and activities happening this weekend in San Diego! The San Diego County Fair opens Friday, June 8 and there are plenty of ways to save! Albertson’s $4 Fair Days are on opening day, June 8 and Tuesday, June 12. Special $4 discounted tickets are ONLY available for purchase at San Diego County Albertsons/Sav-on stores, with a $10 minimum purchase when using an Albertsons Preferred Card. Throughout the run of the Fair, Albertsons/Sav-on offers adult admission tickets for $11. That’s a $2 savings! Two groups of auto dealers will have discount coupons, valid weekdays only. Visit a San Diego County Ford Dealer and get a 4-tickets-for-$28 coupon. That’s Fair admission for $7 each, nearly a 50 percent discount. At San Diego County Toyota dealers, coupons will admit two adults for the price of one, a savings of $13. Every Tuesday is Kid’s Day at the fair. Children 12 and younger get FREE admission. Every Friday is Pennysaver Value Day. All attendees receive a free PennySaver Value Day coupon booklet with over $500 in discounts, two-for-one values, and other savings from Fair merchants. Pepsi Pay-One-Price Ride Day is every Wednesday and Thursday through June 28. Purchase a $30 wristband at Fun Zone ticket booths, good for unlimited rides from noon to 8 p.m. Buy your child a Kids’ Meal Deal at selected vendors. The $5.99 meal includes an entrée, side dish and drink, plus a child’s admission to each of the following venues with a paid adult admission: Living Coast Discovery Center (formerly the Chula Vista Nature Center), the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, Birch Aquarium, The New Children’s Museum, the San Diego Air & Space Museum and the U.S.S. Midway Museum (valid after July 5). Every day of the Fair, park for free at Horsepark Equestrian Center (corner of Via de la Valle & El Camino Real) 9 a.m. to midnight, Sunday-Thursday; 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays and get a shuttle for free to the Fair. FRIDAY, JUNE 8

San Diego County Fair: Opening day at the fair! All the things you love about the San Diego County Fair — rides, animals, food and exhibits — will be here along with live shows throughout the entire season. Del Mar Fairgrounds. 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. Price: $7/$13, Ages 5 and under are free.

Celebrate World Oceans Day at the Birch Aquarium

Toddler Time: Featuring fun art making activities that build motor skills. Recommended for ages 3 and under. The New Children’s Museum. 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Price: Included with admission ($10).

World Oceans Day Celebration: Featuring Dr. Seuss’ classic One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish with special activities. Birch Aquarium. 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Price: Included with admission ($9.50-$14). Article.

Peter and the Wolf: Prokofiev’s classic children’s tale of a boy capturing a wolf will be brought to life in a young mans workshop. Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theatre. 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Price: $4/$5.

Hullabaloo: Hullabaloo fuses country, rock, blues, and folk with kid-friendly lyrics. Vine Theater. 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Price: $5/family.

Concerts on the Promenade: Every Friday, a free concert on the promenade. Prescott Promenade. 6-8 p.m. Free.

SATURDAY, JUNE 9

Carlsbad Beach Fest: The festival features competitive sporting events, live music, food, green product vendors, kite-flying, sand-sculpting, a health and safety expo, and more. Frazee Beach to Tamarack State Beach. 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Free.

7th Annual Philippine Festival: Celebrating Philippine Independence, this festival will feature performances, demonstrations, presentations, vendors, and more. Mira Mesa Community Park. 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Free.

4th Annual San Diego Parks and Open Spaces Day: The day’s events will include ranger-guided hikes, special films about a variety of parks and open spaces, fun activities for children, and more. Cabrillo National Monument. 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free.

KidsFest San Diego: Over 100,000 sq. ft. of unique creative and interactive activities for kids. Liberty Station. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (June 9 & 10). Price: Single day tickets $18. Article.

6th Annual Summer’s Past: Interactive stations set up where participants can make Victorian sachets, punch leather items, rag dolls, create art with sidewalk chalk, and more. San Diego Archaeological Center. 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Price: $2/person or $5/family donation requested. Article.

Adobe Days: Hands-on activities include Adobe brick-making, gold panning, rope-making, acorn grinding plus there will be a petting zoo and crafts for the kids. Rancho Guajome Adobe County Park. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Price: $1/$4, children 3 and under are free. Article.

Kids@Lux: Includes a studio tour, scavenger hunt, Q&A with artist-in-residence, and a hands-on art project. For kids ages 6-12. Lux Art Institute. 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Price: Free for Lux Kids, $20/non-members.

Julian Gold Rush Days: The old fashioned mining camp will offer free admission, vendors, an arts & crafts market, food & drink, gem mining, children’s pioneer games. Julian Mining Company. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (June 9 & 10). Free.

Pinkalicious, the Musical: This is the tale, based on the popular book by Victoria Kann and Elizabeth Kann, of Pinkalicious, who can’t stop eating pink cupcakes despite warnings from her parents. North Coast Repertory Theatre. 11 a.m. (June 9 & 10). Price: $14-$18.

Saturday Science Club for Girls: Get into the outrageous side of science by using chemistry to gross out your family and friends. For girls in grades 5-8. Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. 12-2 p.m. Price: $14.

Rock, Blues, & BBQ Festival: Spend a day relaxing in the park listening to the unique sounds of 6 great bands. Walnut Grove Park in San Marcos. 12-8 p.m. Price: $10/presale, $15/door, $5/children under 10.

SUNDAY, JUNE 10

Guided Nature Walk: Learn about the history, geology, plants, animals and ecology of the park. Mission Trails Regional Park. 9:30-11 a.m. Free.

Diversity Day: Experience the current exhibition, TRASH, special hands-on art making activities, and festive cultural entertainment. The New Children’s Museum. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Free. Article.

Sunday Lawn Programs: Enjoy traditional dance, singing, and performances by the House of the Philippines. International Cottages, Balboa Park. 2-3 p.m. Free.

Sundays at Six Summer Concert Series: Enjoy a free concert by the Navy Jazz Band Southwest. Harry Griffen Park. 6-7 p.m. Free.
