If you have a little engineer in your life, then check out Engineer Day at the Mall on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Grossmont Center in La Mesa. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., children of all ages can participate in fun activities such as making edible bridges, foil sailboats, and, my favorite, slime and ice cream making. This free event, in celebration of National Engineer’s Week, will take place in the Macy’s courtyard. The San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum is kicking off its first of six free cultural performance events during Escondido Roots Series on Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 2-5 p.m. Celebrate the Vietnamese community with hands-on activities, lion dancing, a cultural performance by GDPT Hoa Nghiem Youth Group, and Vietnamese food by Pho Saigon. The event is free to attend with discounted food costs to make it accessible for as many people as possible. Thanks to a donation of 200 shoes from Shoebacca, Kids for Peace is hosting a Kids Help Kids in Kenya service event on Sunday, February 24, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 24 Hour Fitness Overflow lot in Carlsbad. Come help decorate notes for all the shoes, create needed school supplies, and more. As a thanks for your time and service, Kids for Peace will keep things lively! The Marines will lead an obstacle course, the UCSD Men’s basketball team will host a basketball shooting station, local singer Cody Lavaas will perform, and Splash! Animals will provide a live art experience. The shoes will benefit the Kids for Peace School of Kenya.
