San Diego Comic Fest: A friendly, uncrowded comic-convention experience where you can relax and hang out with writers, artists, filmmakers, and fellow fans. Town and Country Resort. 9 a.m. (Oct. 4-6). Price: $7.50-$25; Under 13 Free.
History for Half-Pints: Get to know other families while the kids enjoy crafts, entertaining activities and a special story time. San Diego History Center. 10 a.m. Price: $5 adult/child pair.
Friday Night Liberty: Featuring open artist studios, galleries, shopping and entertainment throughout NTC Promenade. Liberty Station. 5 p.m. Price: Free.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5
SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular: Enjoy silly spooky shows, fun-fishy activities and photo ops with wacky characters. Grab gobs of ghoulish goodies and so much more! SeaWorld San Diego. Weekends through Oct. 27th.
Home Depot’s Kids Workshops: The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety while building fun projects. Home Depot. 9 a.m. Price: Free.
Geppetto’s Grand Opening: Featuring entertainment, refreshments, crafts and activities, giveaways, and a goodie bag (while supplies last). Geppetto’s at Westfield UTC. 9 a.m. Price: Free.
Sensory Friendly Films: Gives families affected by autism an opportunity to enjoy a film in a safe and accepting environment. “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2” plays today. AMC Mission Valley. 10 a.m. Price: $6.
Old Town Art Festival: Features contemporary artists, fine craft, fashion and home décor artisans, plus food and live entertainment. Old Town San Diego. 10 a.m. Price: Free admission.
Little People Live Musical Show: A live and interactive show where friends come to learn and play, sing and dance, and discover! San Diego Zoo. 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. (Oct. 5 & 6). Price: Included with membership or admission.
Carlsbad Rotary Oktoberfest: Featuring authentic German food, drink, live music, dancing, pumpkin patch, face painting, inflatable jumpers, and more. Holiday Park. 12 p.m. Price: Free admission.

Family Fall Festival: Featuring fun activities for children and their families including live music by Hullabaloo, food, games, activities, petting zoo, pumpkin patch, and much more! San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum. 9:30 a.m. Price: $10/$5; Kids 12 and under are free.
The Tortoise and the Hare: The hare brags as he challenges the slow, but steady tortoise to a race. Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theatre. 11 a.m., 1 p.m. & 2:30 p.m. Price: $4/$5; Children under 2 are free.
Oktoberfest in El Cajon: Enjoy authentic German food and drink, traditional folk dancing performances, games and contests, vendor and craft booths, and a Kids’ Zone. German American Societies. 12 p.m. Price: $5/21 & over; Free/under 21 & active military.
ArtWalk & Car Show Sundays: Check out an array of cars including sports cars, hot rods, dragsters, as well as original works of art by local artisans and craftsmen. Old California Restaurant Row. 1 p.m. Price: Free admission.
Free Family Art Day: Using paint, paper, yarn, felt and other materials, participants will create their own landscape. No art experience is required and all art supplies will be provided. Oceanside Museum of Art. 1 p.m. Price: Free.
