This past Saturday I had a great time walking the American Heart Association Heart Walk in San Diego with the Jenny Craig Team (“Team Jenny”), led by their Brand Ambassador, actress Bre’ly Evans. Before the crack of dawn, my friend Sondra, the owner of Happy Healthy Hip Parenting, and I headed to Balboa Park for a lovely day that left us inspired and motivated to fine-tune our fitness and eating rituals. We walked a 5k, then were able to check out vendors that support healthful living and healthy hearts.
The Jenny Craig weight-loss program is for individuals who have made the decision to lose weight and embrace an exercise routine. They offer one-on-one support and emphasize greatly that one of the biggest keys to reducing the risk of heart related disease is movement!!
Heart health is an issue that hits home to Bre’ly, as she lost her grandmother to diabetes, and she didn’t want to travel down the same road. To Bre’ly living a long and healthy life for your family is a great incentive! She has already lost 33 lbs. in 19 weeks and considers herself halfway there! Good for her! She recently revealed her new body on the red carpet for the Hollywood premiere of Sparkle, starring Jordin Sparks and the late Whitney Houston. That is something to be proud of!
Last weekend’s walk served as yet another reminder that we need to take care of the only body we have – however we can. Among other things, we really are what we eat and drink, when it comes down to it. Some things are just out of our hands, but so much of it we can control! San Diego is a playground for active people, but families always can use a reminder to get up and move! Getting outdoors, walking and playing with the family for as little as 30 minutes each day helps reduce the risk of heart disease, this country’s No.1 killer.
Seeing the photos and listening to stories during the walk that centered around people who became proactive and made better choices to live more healthfully was the most powerful motivator and take-home from that event! Glowing ladies who had lost dozens of pounds using the Jenny Craig program went on stage and I could see what a huge difference the program has made in their lives! Also, to see Bre’ly’s progress, knowing she has a great support system and that she is halfway there made my heart jump a little beat – in a good way!!
