SPORTS ILLUSTRATED KIDS PRESENTS:
Intel on Today’s Biggest Stars and Tips on How to Play Like Them
Just in time for the start of the Major League Baseball season, the editors of Sports Illustrated Kids present Sports Illustrated Kids’ Pro Files: Baseball (Sports Illustrated Kids; March 13, 2012; $17.95; ages 8-12), featuring the biggest stars in baseball and insider tips on how to play like them. The book is now available at www.sikids.com/
Pro Files: Baseball offers statistics and bios of the best players in Major League Baseball, along with in-depth analysis from stars and coaches. The 96-page hardcover book, with 100 action-packed colorful photos, profiles 15 of the big leagues’ hottest players and features signature content that includes: great writing, amazing statistics, and dynamic photography. Pro Files: Baseball provides insider secrets on how to hit, pitch and field just like the stars in the book. Experts break down skills and present drills so that young players can learn to play like the pros. In Pro Files: Baseball, fans will not only read all about Joe Mauer and his accomplishments, but they’ll also learn how to throw out a base runner like the Minnesota Twins star. I enjoyed reading with the kids about the mental approach that Albert Pujols is revered for having and discussing with them how Tim Lincecum uses his flexibility and velocity to compensate for his height and strength. These are all great conversation pieces to have with the kids that help them get all geared up for the games!
Big league profiles also included in Pro Files: Baseball:
- Justin Verlander
- Joe Mauer
- Evan Longoria
- Roy Halladay
- And more!
“We are excited to share Pro Files: Baseball with baseball fans and players of all ages,” said Bob Der, Managing Editor, Sports Illustrated Kids. “Between the trivia, statistics, and in-depth tips from pros themselves, we are confident baseball enthusiasts will think this book is a home run.”

Some Great “Bargain Mama” Petco Park Tips:
- The Convention Center parking is typically $10, much cheaper than some of the lots’ fees, and now that the footbridge is complete, you can enjoy a scenic view and work off your hot dog in advance. Speaking of parking, did you know that you can park at Qualcomm Stadium for free and take the trolley straight to the game?
- Saturday night games are big sell-outs and also popular for their giveaways. May 5 is free T-shirt day and one of our favorites is coming up on July 7, when they will offer free beach towels.
- Save a heap and take the little ones to Park at the Park, where for $5 per head you have access to the grassy area (hill, playground, kids’ softball diamond) which offers great space to run around and have a picnic. You can watch the game on the big screen, but are also granted access to Petco Park standing-room viewing areas and also the consession stands.
- How about FREE membership for Padres fans 14 or younger? Junior Padres get free loot such as hats, shirts, posters, coupons and free tickets. They are also invited to show up before Sunday games to get players’ autographs.
Any other tips? See you at the Park!
