SDBM is proud to announce that we will be working with Classics 4 Kids, an educational performing arts organization dedicated to improving academic performance through programs that inspire children to appreciate music. The organization is devoted to increasing lifelong participation in music and the arts, stimulating creativity and imagination, and improving academic achievement for children through professional orchestra concerts and educational programs designed to engage and inspire young audiences.
Classics 4 Kids on Sunday, January 27 at 2 p.m will present an hour-long, bilingual concert engaging to audience of all ages at the historic Balboa Theatre in Downtown San Diego.
The Classics Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates the music, dance, and song of Mexico! World-renowned Mariachi Garibaldi of Southwestern College, under the direction of Jeff Nevin and traditional folkloric dancers bring this festive concert to life. Mariachi mixes with classical music offering cultural enrichment for the senses.
Today’s youth need opportunities to experience traditional or classical music. Classics 4 Kids founder Marion Sciré shares “If you expose children at a young age and you provide them with an experience that is age appropriate, we can be very successful at building future audiences. What we try to do is select classical repertoire that is not necessarily child oriented, but we present it in such a way that children have something to focus on. We use a visual component, like dancers. When the youngsters can relate, it makes a difference.”
