~ Break up on February 13th, get back together on the 15th.
~ In place of bubble bath, use lavender-scented dish-washing liquid.
~ Forget rose petals. Sprinkle the bed with sliced beets!
What are your Valentine’s Day traditions? As savvy as Dave’s? I recently had a little chat with a friend who contends that Valentine’s Day has evolved into a marketing machine of sorts- not so much a day to devote to love and romance, as it was intended for. I thought her same sentiments when I happened upon this on Twitter:
Valentines Day is a couples celebration. Why are there so many Valentines arts/crafts activities for young kids? Or has its meaning changed?

They both make very good points. My thoughts are best said this way: When we assign such high expectations for that one particular day, we perhaps are missing the boat a smudge. We tend to spend much more money on Valentine’s Day than on other dates out, the restaurants get super crowded, and the services catering to the hype of it all tend to charge more, too.
Being the practical person I am, I tend to go for having the husband create his special jambalaya and look forward to a plant that he picks out for me (lasts longer, plus I am alergic to roses!). Then, I make something with chocolate! We reserve our “date” for lunchtime, when the kids are in school. As for getting the kids involved: I have always loved preparing fun little treats and crafts for this day since I was very young, and I applaud those who enjoy the fun of getting the kids involved, as well!
