Budget-Friendly in the Kitchen

When I got engaged, I made a beeline to Crate & Barrel and registered for every kitchen item under the sun. I do enjoy squeezing dough through my cookie press and blazing food into crispy deliciousness with my creme brulee torch, but a lot of this stuff isn’t necessary and frankly, I could use a little more counter space! If you’re getting ready to start a family or move into a new home, here’s a list of kitchen items you’ll need to take along – and ones you can probably leave behind.

What You Need:

•Basic utensils, like a spatula, strong spoon, tongs, high-quality knives and a can opener
• A cutting board. That is, if you don’t want to be replacing your countertop.
•KitchenAid, to make mixing and blending a breeze.
•Slanted panini press or George Foreman Grill. This is one of the quickest ways to cook up dinner in a snap.
•Slow cooker. Dinner in a pot ready when you need it, with no fuss required? This is a necessity.

What You Don’t:

It’s always best to start with the basics and build up from there. If you need it later, you’ll know. You can easily run out and pick up a mesh strainer or French press if you decide it’s a priority. Extra kitchen space, on the other hand, isn’t as easily attained.
