Moms: Forget Retail, Go Resale!

San Diego Bargain Mama loves children's resale.

Green Baby on a Budget

I love clothes–baby clothes especially. But with a commitment to going green and the high costs of retail baby clothes (especially since the babies grow like weeds!), my wallet and conscience simply can’t weather too many trips to the checkout line at Gymboree with a pair of $25 baby jeans.

Luckily, buying gently-used baby (you will find new, too) clothes IS recycling and is also budget-friendly. Since the San Diego area boasts plenty of excellent children’s resale stores, I never have to sacrifice style in lieu of ‘going green.’ Here’s a rundown of some of the most exceptional stores in the county.

Cory’s Closet – With a huge selection of gently used name-brand infant, toddler, and children’s clothes, this clean and organized store saves the pocketbook between 50-75% on retail prices. 3745 Avocado Boulevard, La Mesa.

Baby-Go-Round – Not only can you buy adorable like-new clothes for your fast-growing tyke, but the baby equipment and maternity clothes here are also top notch. I purchased an entire maternity wardrobe for my first pregnancy for about $80. 10330 Friars Rd. #118, San Diego.

Only Kidding – A jewel of a resale shop that just opened in the fall of 2010. They are already garnishing rave reviews on Yelp for their customer service, prices, and selection. 3619 Midway Dr., San Diego.

Conceptions Resale – A wide selection of clothes, strollers, books, and DVD’s, this store is worth a visit. Looking for something in particular? Use their ‘wish list’ tab on their website and be contacted when your coveted item hits their shelves. 10438 Mission Gorge Rd., Santee.

Love Child – An upscale children’s resale boutique in North County. This chic and anthropologie-esque baby store buys only the hottest trends. The clothes are of such high-quality that you’ll never know you were at a ‘used’ store until you get to the cash register and pay at least 1/2 price. 1002 North Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas.

Happy shopping San Diego moms! And don’t forget: Make money and recycle your baby gear and clothes by selling them BACK to these haute stores when you’re done!
