If your child has off on Monday, Feb. 20 for President Washington’s birthday, there are some fun (and educational!) events taking place such as History for Half-Pints at the San Diego History Center and Adventures on the High Seas Family Day at the San Diego Natural History Museum. Or you can partake in the Children’s Nature Adventure class at Mission Trails Regional Park, where the theme for Feb. 20 is “Bothersome But Beneficial Backyard Bandits: Opossum, Raccoon & Skunks.” How fun!


Absolutely Apes: During these special days (Feb. 17-20, 2012), the ape residents of the Zoo, lowland gorillas, bonobos, orangutans and siamangs are featured and celebrated through a variety of special events and offers. San Diego Zoo. Included with admission. More Info.

The Rabbit in the Moon:A tricky rabbit gets the best of a coyote in this traditional Mexican Folk Tale. Hand Puppets. Gaston’s Puppet Show. Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theatre. 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Price: $3-$5. More Info.

Hullabaloo Sing-Along Concert: Come on by for some singing, dancing and foot-stomping! Scripps Mende Well Being Center. 10:30-11:30 a.m. Price: $5/family; $3/family Parent Connection members. More Info.

Circus Vargas:  The new production is full of musical magnitude with the addition of Ringmaster Kevin Venardos, who skillfully adds a bit of Broadway under the blue and gold big top. Feb. 17-27 at Balboa Park. 7:30 p.m. Price $20-$60. More Info.


K9 Cancer Cure Walk:  This is a 1 mile walk, plus vendors and guest speakers to enjoy with your family while helping our four-legged friends. Benefits the Morris Animal Foundation. Walnut Grove Park. 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Price: $30/adults, $15/child. More Info.

Guided Nature Walk:  Join an MTRP Trail Guide on a guided nature walk from the Visitor Center and learn about the history, geology, plants, animals and ecology of the park. Mission Trails Regional Park. 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Free. More Info.

KinderTots:  The learning blocks all connect to animal facts and green practices, making each program unique and fun. Program is geared for children ages 18 months to 3 with an adult. San Diego Zoo. 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Price: $12 per participant (plus Zoo admission for non-members). More Info.

Junkyard Extravaganza Party:  Commemorating the opening of The Junkyard, highlights will include music with fun-filled performances by family rock favorite, EGG, and a live DJ, dancing, facepainting, and special activities. SEA Days at the Birch Aquarium

Children’s Pottery Class:Every Saturday, rain or shine, children can learning basic pottery skills, try their hand at the potter’s wheel, and have fun creating art! Ages 6 and up. Studio 6, Spanish Village Art Center. 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Price: $20. More Info.

Trunk Treasure Consignment Sale: Trunk Treasures is a seasonal Children’s and Mom’s Consignment Sale in San Diego. You’ll find maternity, baby and children’s clothes, toys, furniture, books and more! Design Center. 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. More Info.

Family Science Saturdays: The Fleet’s tinkering gurus will tinker with Spinning Tops. What makes them spin faster, longer, wobble? Find out! Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Included with admission. More Info.

Little Italy Carvevale: The 9th Annual Little Italy Carnevale will feature vignettes of entertainment, music, dancing, Venetian masks (don’t forget your Carnevale mask!), food, and more. Family-friendly! India St., Little Italy. 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. More Info.


Family Sunday: Children and families can explore their colorful exhibitions of folk art, craft and design, and win a prize for completing the Treasure Hunt! Mingei International Museum. 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. Price: $5/family, $3/individual. More Info.

Family Drop-In Days: Recommended for families with children 6-12 years, this program encourages participants to explore and learn about the art on view through interactive games, child-friendly tours and art making. San Diego Museum of Art. 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Included with admission. More Info.

Sunday Concert Series: Every Sunday, catch a free concert at the East Plaza Gazebo. Today, listen to the rock n’ roll sounds of the Cat.illacs. Seaport Village. 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Free. More Info.

Healthy Chats for Girls: A fun approach to the sensitive topics of puberty and growing up for mothers and daughters (ages 9-12). Scripps Mende Well Being Center. 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. $60 per mother/daughter couple. More Info.
