I have creative lunch-making envy. I adore you moms who are so dang creative and artistic with your kids’ bento-style lunches, and such, and you make eating good food so much fun! I am feeling the pressure to expand my practices, a bit, quite honestly, and am growing more passionate about exposing my kids to a good variety of nutritious food in an inviting way.
I am positive it is not going to stick if I have such a high bar, BUT I also know that packing my standard sandwich and veges with a cookie and then some cut-up apple are just not going to suffice, anymore, especially since my kids have been urging me to prepare more interesting food. The truth stings.
I spent $50 and change and bought a fabulous selection of food at Grocery Outlet, and my first step was to focus on snacks. I am staying simple for now, but I know so very well that kids need to grab produce (great selection at Grocery Outlet) and snacks on-the-go, as well. When I occasionally allow my kids to select some greasy potato chips or cheese ball crisps, (or whatever they are called, now) I just don’t feel so proud of myself, so I encourage them to sample other items with better ingredients, and Grocery Outlet is notorious for providing an ample selection of nutritious options.
Tasty Treats With Less Guilt
The first in the photo is mixed nuts; I found a variety of trail mixes from Sun Tree that I mixed in a tub. Their bags are $3.99 for 16 ounces. Annie’s Whole Wheat Bunnies are super tasty and well-seasoned baked snack crackers ($1.49 a box), Snapea Crisps ($.99 a bag) are heavenly, and Nash Brothers Organic Wheat Crackers ($1.99 a box) go great with cheese sticks. These treats are much better alternatives than most of the popular snack selections and they are at least 30-40% cheaper at Grocery Outlet!
I am planning to routinely prepare accessible snack-sized tubs that are ideal to grab on the go. Some have fruit or bite-sized veges, some cheese, and then the crunchy snacks, too, like nuts, cereal, and crackers. Because so frequently my bottomless pit kids seems to spout, “I am starving!” I think this is a great step to take to keeping us all happy and well-nourished. Plus I love the DEALS!
