SDBM Book Review: My Knight In Shining Armor Is Coming…He’s Just Stuck In Traffic

SDBM Book Review“It’s easier to be killed by a terrorist than it is to find a husband over the age of 40!” ~ “Sleepless in Seattle”

Doh! I was recently contacted to check out the site Ladies In The Pink and to review the new book My Knight In Shining Armor Is Coming…He’s Just Stuck In Traffic, by Lindsley Lowell.  Having come from LA, myself, it became quite clear right away that I had something in common with Lindsley, and that was LA dating stories that could either make your head spin or leave you in stitches. Lindsley recounts her dating years that had her worried that she might never find the one, especially a pressing issue to many of the female persuasion and over 35! Her candidness and brutal honesty in telling her stories and escapades paints a picture of the landscape of dating for many in the big city – a similar one to Sex in the City, and likely one of the reasons the book is such a quick read! Let me tell you, I was so pleased that Lindsley finds her match, after all, because she sure was ready for a breath of fresh air by the end of that read!  Many of us are not so eager to ever dig up some of the dating fiascoes we either experienced or escaped in one piece, but Lindsley holds nothing back as she recounts her colorful journey in the dating world and in her search for that right guy.

Certainly passing one’s mid-thirties presents a different picture in the dating world, and has a lady eager to settle down, get married and maybe even start a family.  Lindsley certainly played the field and by her own rules, but armored with her crafty talent for wittiness and sarcasm she would always get back on the saddle. Throughout the book she shares a sense of strength and determination to never let her spirit be defeated, which she heartily advises to her readers.  From her international loves to some out-of-this-world (yuh, LA again!) online dating ordeals, her journey ultimately leads her standing tall on 40th birthday, and embracing the concept that while she had not yet settled down, she was going to embrace her life with the right attitude and with acceptance that “It is what it is,” and to be thankful for the blessings that she did have.

Dating can be a downright time-consuming, confusing and exhausting journey, especially as young ladies exit their twenties and their biological clock starts ticking. Ladies with their nose to the grindstone or with a very demanding job, in particular, need to take the time out of their busy schedules and be resourceful and creative as to how they look for their match. Branching out into social situations to meet people and interact in locations other than bars or night clubs is likely one of most common ways, but it’s still a jungle out there!

The message I think Lindsley most wants to convey to single women is to never give up hope for the full package. Aim for your true match, despite the ticking and don’t give up or just put your life on hold.  She advises, ”Do not settle…. Let me be your beacon of hope, your wing woman, and your leader in the fight to find your knight in shining armor. Yes, Virginia, he does exist. He just might be stuck in traffic.”
