Cell phones. Smartphones. Now since my kids are preteen-ish (OK, 8 and 10, but they are not little kids anymore!) and their friends and classmates have them, my kids regularly ask when their time will come. I just got my first real smartphone, and well, it has been quite empowering – “I’m not gonna lie,” as kids say! At a point, the learning curve kicked in and I really started to experience a huge appreciation for this tool that has become my companion of sorts. I am glad to have some time to get into the swing of things, because “The world,” as they say, will be soon be “in palm of their hands,” - a realization that is quite compelling, to say the least, but also a tad nerve-wracking!
I recently wrote a post for TheOnlineMom.com, Being Smart About Smartphones, and another one entitled, Smart Phone Contracts Between Parents and Pre-Teens: Safeguard or Overkill? for MamarazziKnowsBest. I would love you to check them out and leave your comments there or below.
I am not so new at parenting, at this juncture, but I do feel that our little worlds in the tech age presents us with so many more factors, choices and opportunities than I would have ever imagined. I seek so much help from my online community to help me navigate life better, but I proceed with caution and keep my eyes and ears open.
Someone just pinged me…… Thanks for the vent.
When do you think is the best age for kids to have cell phones is? Would you create a written contract that they need to obide to?
